The mainstay of Western Sicily, the Nocellara del Belice is a beloved olive cultivar. The Lollo – Nocellara del Belice is handpicked the last two weeks of October from olive south facing groves in Partanna and Campobello di Mazara. With the olives being position above 200m from sea level, the stress of the mountainous terrain and southern sun creates stress on the trees, offering a high-quality with significant character, exuding balance between the flavours, creating harmony. The oil is intensely fruit forward in both aroma and flavour with the presence of tomato predominating.

Aromas of fresh tomato leaf, grass, green apple, fennel and thyme, flavours of ripe tomato, tannic unripe almond, arugula and mustard greens, the lingering finish of cinnamon and red chilli are persistent, creating a harmonious mouth feel and balance of flavour as all the notes cross the palate. Being tomato forward, tomato dishes are a perfect pairing.

Caprese salad, panzanella with the crouton roasted in the oil, and simple Pomodoro pasta showcase this cultivar and olive oil beautifully. Maybe unconventional, this oil is delightful with eggs, scrambled, fried, quiche or frittata are all incredible with the addition of the Lollo – Nocellara del Belice.
